Parish Committees

Canon Law states that all decisions concerning the management of the parish are taken by the Parish Priest. However, in a complex world in which new techniques and technologies are available to help manage ever-scarcer resources, these Committees play a vital role in advising the Parish Priest and performing a number of administrative functions, making it possible for him to concentrate on the Pastoral and Eucharistic duties which lie at the heart of his responsibilities. The Parish Priest is President of each Committee.

PPC

PPC
The role of the Pastoral Parish Council is currently being reviewed by a ‘Core Group’ which will lay the foundations of a new PPC, define the Parish Mission and develop a Parish Vision. It is also reviewing all parish ministries.

Finance
Under canon law, each parish must have a Finance Committee ‘to help the Parish Priest in the administration of the goods of the parish’. It is the only committee which every parish is obliged to have; church law dictates total separation between the Finance Committee and the PPC

Liturgy
The aim of the Liturgy Group is to set goals, direction and standards for the overall liturgical life and activities of the parish. The group has no financial powers; it refers financial matters to the Parish Priest, keeping the Finance Committee informed. The Group is accountable directly to the Parish Priest.

Maintenance
Both the churches and their grounds, the church hall and the presbytery of St Laurence Parish are looked after by the parish Maintenance Committee. Its role is planning works, instructing contractors and overseeing all works at these properties. It is accountable directly to the Parish Priest and keeps the Finance Committee informed of any anticipated expenditure.
