Communications

The Communications Group supports the Parish Office and PPC in helping them communicate through the following means of communication:

• Database of members (based on a questionnaire issued in October 2007)
• Welcoming leaflet
• Newsletter (in collaboration with parish office)
• The Dome
• Website

The Group has also been involved in preparing the Parish Summary, collecting information about a range of parish activities and the people who organize them, intended to help communication within the Pastoral Area Operation

The communications group meets approximately every two months. The sub-groups meet as required by publication and launch dates.

The DomeCommunications Group

A small steering group was established in 2007 after a parish workshop on communications, to devise a strategy for the media which will help the parish act as a community and support the clergy. The group welcomes any parishioner willing to contribute time and energy to these activities, particularly those with journalistic or web skills.

Public and Press Relations

The PRO/PLO keeps the parish in the local public eye, by submitting stories and photos when appropriate to local newspapers, Delta FM/BBC Radio Solent (if particularly newsworthy) and the Diocesan paper, Portsmouth People. Stories are about events happening in the parish beforehand or afterwards and about individual parishioners who deserve attention e.g. medal winners, Diamond anniversaries. The PRO submits press releases (with double-spacing) by email or by hand. She also keeps the editor of The Dome editor informed of any newsworthy items and sends parish photos with captions and dates to the parish archivist.
