Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion

Duties

Extraordinary Ministers, often known as Eucharistic Ministers, assist the priest at Mass in the distribution of Holy Communion usually by administering the chalice. However, if there are other priests concelebrating or a deacon present on the altar then they take precedence over the Eucharistic Ministers.

Appointment of Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion

Prospective Ministers are always approached by the Parish Priest but often on the recommendation of parishioners. Training sessions are generally arranged from time to time at diocesan level or within our Pastoral Area. On completion new Ministers are commissioned by the Parish Priest after which they can start their duties. Each year on the Feast of Corpus Christi all Ministers attend a Rite of Renewal.
