Brief History of Petersfield Parish St Laurence’s Church had always felt the lack of a hall for parochial activities. Enquiries of the local authority over planning permission had been made as long ago as 1954 but it was not until the mid 1970s that a generous legacy from Miss Lillian O’Hare made the project a reality. During the major refurbishment of the parish church in 1989 it was used for the celebration of Mass. | | (When the old pulpit was removed to provide more space a message was revealed from the carpenter who built the pulpit, written on the floorboard. When he was a boy he could not remember any Catholics in Petersfield but now there was a regular congregation which was continuing to grow ever larger.) Back to About the Parish>> | |
