Music Music is the sound track to our lives and can touch us in ways that spoken words cannot. St Augustine says those who sing pray twice and the right music can heighten celebration or deepen contemplation at Mass. However, one person's favourite hymn can sometimes be another's cue to cover their ears so it's important to involve as many people as we can in choosing music so that everyone feels welcome.
| | Music at St Laurence is organized by the Music Co-ordinator who is a member of the Liturgy Group and plans the music according to the themes of each Sunday. The Music Co-ordinator picks the hymns and Mass settings for the 10.45 Mass at St Laurence, books organists, organizes practices and is the contact for anyone wanting music at other celebrations, e.g. Christenings or special services. The Co-ordinator works with the Canon and Liturgy Committee to make sure the music is appropriate for the readings or special theme of the day. | | A Cantor (below) leads the singing including introducing any new music before Mass and singing the psalm. They also put up the hymn numbers and liaise with the organist of the day. Each currently has about five duties every quarter so new volunteers for this role are very welcome as it will lighten the load for everyone else. Music at St Agnes is organized separately.
